The Residual Current Operated Circuit Breaker is located next to the circuit breaker and integrates a magnetic protection to a thermal one, and in case of need it interrupts the electric current. The thermal-magnetic circuit breaker is, therefore, a system that combines the functions of the circuit breaker with magnetic and thermal features.
The Residual Current Operated Circuit Breaker in the electrical system integrates three different protections:
- The magnetic one for short circuits that can endanger an entire building with the danger of fire
- The thermal one for overloads in the supply of electricity (for example, more than one appliance in operation)
- The differential one proper to the earth leakage circuit breaker, which protects the subject from a current leakage
