R74M is a Y-shaped, magnetic filter suitable for the distribution of non-hazardous fluids (group 2 according to PED directive) and non-aggressive copper alloy fluids. The filter with wire mesh and magnet was created to prevent solid impurities from entering the piping and, by depositing, reducing the passage sections by increasing pressure drops and oxidation phenomena.
The heat flow enters the filter and undergoes a slowdown such that solid impurities are separated. The impurities are separated upon collision with the wire mesh and precipitate to the bottom of the plug; the ferrous ones are retained by the force of attraction generated by the magnet. The filter body is constructed in such a way as to utilize the entire filtering surface area, lengthening the operating time before total fouling of the mesh. If necessary, the filter can be pulled out and cleaned with running water to restore the passage surface.
The R74M filter should be installed upstream of all system components that may be damaged or inefficient due to the presence of impurities. It is recommended that shutoff valves be installed upstream and downstream of the filter for ease of maintenance. The filter is normally installed at the inlet of the water supply system before check valves, disconnectors and pressure reducers. It is also used in closed heating circuits at the inlet of the heat generator to protect the exchangers from any impurities from the system. For better efficiency in filtering and depositing solid impurities, it is recommended that the filter body be installed on horizontal piping with the cap facing downward. For proper installation, refer to the direction of flow indicated by the arrow stamped on the filter body.
