How does a heat pump work?
- The operation is characterized by a closed-loop system with a refrigerant fluid inside (for eco-sustainability issues today we almost always use the refrigerant R-32, also known as difluoromethane or Freon 32) subject to a cyclic change of state, passing from the liquid phase to vapor and vice versa; this obviously occurs with an expenditure of electrical energy, as the heat pump extracts and transfers thermal energy by employing electrical energy. According to the laws of technical physics and psychrometry, there will be variations in pressure and temperature, and the heat pump takes advantage of these variations occurring at the evaporator and compressor, resulting in a very advantageous overall efficiency or coefficient of performance (COP), even exceeding 4-5. It means that for every electrical kW spent, as a result you have 4-5 kW of heat output generated by the system.
Air-to-air or air-to-water heat pump? Which one to choose?
- Unlike air-to-air pumps Air-to-water heat pumps have a higher initial cost but also produce domestic hot water, so they do not require an extra boiler or traditional system for domestic hot water.
Why choose a Daikin Altherma air-to-water heat pump?
- The outdoor unit extracts energy from the air to provide heating, cooling and hot water production. Up to 75% of the energy used comes from the air, while the rest is provided by electricity. The air-to-water heat pump relies on a compressor and refrigerant to transfer energy from air to water by heating it to meet your needs and use it in your home.
Monoblock unit:
- A monoblock unit is an outdoor unit that includes the refrigeration circuit. In this case, there is no indoor unit, only a wiring module and a stand-alone domestic hot water tank.
Medium-temperature heat pump:
- Ideal for applications in new buildings and major renovations, medium-temperature heat pumps are particularly suitable combined with underfloor heating and heat pump convectors that require a lower temperature to provide comfort equivalent to that of radiators.
