Elbi was founded in 1965 in Vigodarzere, in the province of Padua, as a manufacturer of boilers and oil boilers. In the mid-1970s the company started production of pressure vessels and expansion vessels, quickly becoming one of the largest European manufacturers in the sector.

After moving to its current headquarters in Limena, the company expanded to the United States, more precisely to Houston, Texas, and in 2001 opened a new production plant in Modugno, in the province of Bari.

Over the years, Elbi has expanded into other production sectors and other markets, but its core business remains thermal hydraulics: membrane autoclaves, multifunctional tanks, expansion vessels and accumulators of certified quality.
