The PLANET GSW-1601 Gigabit Ethernet Switch provides 16 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 ports for high-speed network connectivity. It can automatically identify and determine the proper throughput and half/full duplex mode of connected devices with its 16 Gigabit ports supporting 9K jumbo frame function.

Therefore, the GSW-1601 can handle extremely high amounts of data transmission in a secure topology connected to a high-power backbone or server:

• Standard (default): This mode operates the Gigabit Ethernet switch as a general switch, and all ports operate with automatic negotiation at 10/100/1000 Mbps
• Flow control disabled : This mode disables the flow control function of the Gigabit Ethernet switch
• VLAN: This mode makes the GSW-1601 operate as a VLAN isolation switch and: port 1 to port 14 will be isolated respectively, port 1 to port 14 can only communicate with port 15 and port 16 (uplink port)
• Extend: This mode operates the GSW-1601 as a distance extension switch, and port 1 to port 8 can only transmit a distance of 200 m at a speed of 10 Mbps
  
  

The GSW-1601 operates as a regular Gigabit Ethernet Switch in the "Standard" mode of operation. The " VLAN " operation mode presents the port-based VLAN function that can help prevent the mutual influence of multicast or broadcast storm of connected clients.

In the " Extend " operating mode, the GSW-1601 operates on a per-port basis at 10 Mbps in duplex mode but can transmit data over a distance of up to 200 meters by exceeding the 100 m limit on the UTP Ethernet cable. With this brand new feature, the GSW-1601 provides an additional solution for distance extension, thus saving the cost of Ethernet cable installation. Its VLAN isolation feature isolates each port so as to prevent broadcast storm and defend DHCP spoofing in the "Extend" mode of operation.

The GSW-1601 provides a high-performance switch architecture capable of providing non-blocking switch structure and wire-speed throughput of up to 32 Gbps, which greatly simplifies LAN upgrade tasks to meet growing bandwidth demands. In addition, the flow control feature of the GSW-1601 allows routers and servers to connect directly to the Switch for fast and reliable data transfer. All RJ45 copper interfaces of the GSW-1601 support 10/100/1000Mbps auto-negotiation for optimal speed detection via RJ45 Category 6, 5 or 5e cables. It also supports the standard for auto-MDI/MDI-X that can detect the type of connection to any Ethernet device without requiring special straight or crossed cables.

The GSW-1601 supports the Store-and-Forward forwarding scheme to ensure low latency and high data integrity, eliminating unnecessary traffic and relieving congestion on critical network paths. With an intelligent address recognition algorithm, the GSW-1601 recognizes up to 8,000 different MAC addresses. Its high effective data rate and 32 Gbps internal switching fabric make it ideal for most Gigabit environments, especially when the network is upgraded to a Gigabit environment.
